M.A.
- Completion of seven regular courses during the first two semesters (Fall and Spring) with a grade of at least B in each course.
- Successful defense of a thesis proposal by the end of the second semester.
- During the fourth semester, and before the defense, the candidate is required to present a chapter from their thesis to the department.
- Successful defense of a master’s thesis by the end of the fourth semester.
- Participation in the department’s weekly seminars and conferences throughout the degree.
Ph.D.
- Completion of seven regular courses during the first two semesters (Fall and Spring) with a grade of at least B in each course.
- Successful completion of a qualifying exam and defense of a thesis proposal before the end of the fourth and fifth semesters, respectively.
- During the thesis phase of the degree, the candidate must successfully complete regular evaluations conducted by their thesis monitoring committee.
- Successful defense of a PhD thesis by the end of the eighth semester. In exceptional circumstances, an extension of up to six months may be granted.
- To qualify for the thesis defense, the candidate must first publish an article derived from their thesis in an internationally indexed journal.
- Participation in the department’s weekly seminars and conferences throughout the degree.
